We will be having a Mothers' Day Assembly at 2.40pm on Friday. All are welcome to attend. We hope to see you there.
We welcome Miss Amor to Stage 2 Turtles for her 4 week practicum with Mrs Frost and her beautiful class. Miss Amor is completing her Master's of Primary Education through the University of Melbourne. We look forward to a great four weeks for her and the class.
Emergency Drills – Keeping Our Students Safe
As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety and compliance, we are required to conduct evacuation or lockdown drills each semester. These practice drills help ensure that staff and students are well-prepared in the event of an emergency.
We understand that some children may find these experiences unsettling. If you have any concerns about how your child might respond to an evacuation or lockdown drill, please don’t hesitate to contact the school. We’re here to support your child’s wellbeing and can work with you to help them feel safe and reassured.
Need to Speak with Someone About Your Child?
Mornings can be a very busy time at school, with teachers engaged in classroom preparation and planning for the day ahead. During this time, members of the executive team are on duty to support a smooth start to the day.
If you need to get in touch with your child’s class teacher, we kindly ask that you do so via email—either by using their direct email address or by phoning the office.
For matters such as upcoming specialist appointments that require documentation or the completion of forms, a slightly different process applies. In these cases, please contact the relevant Inclusion Teacher. This ensures teachers have adequate time to complete or prepare any necessary paperwork.
Contact details for the Inclusion Teacher are as follows:
Kindergarten, Year 1, Year 2 - Claire Cole (claire.cole@lism.catholic.edu.au)
Year 3, Year 4 - Lisa Doolan (lisa.doolan@lism.catholic.edu.au)
Year 5, Year 6 - Amanda Murphy (amanda.murphy@lism.catholic.edu.au)
While some children enjoy being around dogs, others have a deep fear or phobia, which can cause them significant stress or anxiety. For this reason, we kindly ask that all families refrain from bringing dogs into the school playground, even on a leash. Even the friendliest dog can feel unpredictable to a child who is afraid.
For the wellbeing of all students, please help us create a safe and comfortable space by keeping pets outside the school gates. If you need to bring your dog with you during drop-off or pick-up, we ask that you wait with them outside the school perimeter.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Working together, we can ensure every child feels safe and supported at school.
Please ensure that your children are in the correct uniform. This includes sports shorts, plain navy socks, plain white socks with sport uniform, school jumpers and school hat. We will be following up with students who are not in the correct uniform.
Our Year 6 students will be attending the GLOW retreat at St John Paul College on Wednesday 28th May.
In the coming weeks we will be inviting students, teachers and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
We will be inviting parents to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Mary’s.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. A URL link will be sent via the Compass App in a separate email.
It has been such a pleasure to welcome our Stage 1 students back after a well deserved Easter break. They were excited to catch up with friends and swap holiday stories as the new term began.
Writing
Here are just a few examples of what some of our students got up to during the holidays. Their task was to write some ‘Super Sentences’ about some of their holiday highlights. ‘A Super Sentence’; starts with a capital letter, ends with a full stop, tells us about something or someone and must make sense. The students also had to add conjunctions (joining words such as; and, but, so, because) to transform their simple sentences into a compound sentence.
Cross Country
We were so proud of the Stage 1 students, their efforts and smiles as they took part in our annual school Cross Country Carnival!

Religion
Stage 1 were busy last week creating artwork to support their learning about “The Resurrection”. There was some serious concentration happening while they were cutting out and creating 3 crosses to glue onto their painted sunset.
Maths
Last week Stage 1 was given a challenge where they had to explore how many different ways they could arrange 5 triangles to create a new shape. The sides of the triangles had to align with each other. Using concrete materials to investigate and then record on a triangular grid.
